Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn installation

In this page you can find detailed steps necessary to make a simple installation of Ubuntu GNU/Linux distribution. Concretely, version 7.04 also named Feisty Fawn. I know that there are uncountable guides that explain how to install Ubuntu, but the reason for writing a new one is to be used as a base for other related articles in this Web site.
Getting Ubuntu
In order to get Ubuntu, go to the main project page http://www.ubuntulinux.com and follow the links for downloading the ISO images. Once downloaded completely it must be burned into a CD.
Starting Ubuntu LiveCD
Put the CD into the CD reader of the PC where you want to install it and then restart the computer. If everything is Ok, you will see the Ubuntu boot screen. LiveCD.
You must choose "Start or Install Ubuntu", that will start a reduced version of Ubuntu from where we will start the installation process on the PC hard drive.
Starting the installation process
Once Ubuntu LiveCD is fully started, double-click the "Install" icon located in the desktop. The installation process will begin, but first it asks for some configuration options.

First it asks for the language. You can choose any of the languages available.

In the next step the time zone must be selected. Clicking on the points in the map the corresponding time zone is selected.

After this it asks for the keyboard distribution that will be used. Its important to select the correct keyboard mapping in order to avoid unnecessary headaches, especially with special characters. To check that everything is OK, test the keyboard in the field located at the bottom of the screen.

In the next step disc partitioning is defined. In our case we use the full disc for Ubuntu. In case you have another operating system installed in the same disk choose manual partitioning (not treated in this article).

Next option should be ignored in most cases. It allows you to migrate existing user configurations but this is not explained in this article.

At this point the operating system user that will be the system administrator is created. Its a normal user that can access administrative commands using "sudo". It's very important to remember the password. We also can change the host name.

Finally it shows a description of all the options selected and ask for the beginning of the installation process.

During the process of installation a bar shows the current status.

Once the files are copied to the hard drive and basic configurations ar made for the recently installed system, it asks for reboot.

First start and software updates
Before starting it is necessary to eject the installation CD, in order to let the system start from hard drive. If no errors occur, after a few seconds the login screen appears. A user and password must be typed to enter the desktop.

Once session is on the desktop is loaded and probably new software updates are available. To start system update click on the bubble or the icon in the top right corner of the desktop.

It shows a dialogue with the list of software updates available, simply click on "Install updates" to begin downloading and installing them.

Once finished it shows the confirmation dialogue that must be closed and close also the available updates dialogue.

It may be necessary to reboot the system.

Conclusions
As you can see, Ubuntu installation is easy and can be made by non technical users. Try it, you will not regret.
